David Conlan CTA (1991)

David is an entrepreneurial tax adviser and creative thinker, with proven business development, management, and motivational skills. He is able to clearly communicate complex ideas and oversee the implementation and progress of complex taxation projects. He is also an experienced public speaker and tax advocate.

He has significant experience in helping companies (UK and international), professional partnerships, owner managed businesses, and high net worth individuals, to manage their tax exposure in regards to both current and future profits and gains. He is an expert in tax efficient restructuring of companies, partnerships, and LLP's.

David can advise on strategic tax planning for companies and groups of companies, ensuring that tax efficiencies are maximised and tax leakage is minimised.

David can design, implement, and manage tax efficient business strategies, and is able to communicate these strategies to directors and board members.
David has particular expertise in planning for sale and succession, and tax efficient real estate transactions (development and investment), making full use of double tax treaties where beneficial.

David has represented clients at Tribunal and negotiated tax liabilities and settlements with HMRC.

He has successfully implemented HMRC approved share option and share incentive schemes, designing bespoke tax efficient rewards arrangements for employers.

David’s’ goal is to ensure that clients only pay the amount of tax required by the law, not what HMRC want them to. There is often a significant difference between the two numbers. HMRC apply a strict interpretation of the law only where it favours them.

In his spare time, David enjoys playing golf and competing in Ironman Triathlons.
